The Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory is a research facility founded in 1960 and located south-west of Okanagan Falls, British Columbia, Canada. The site houses three instruments – an interferometric radio telescope array, a 26-m single-dish antenna, and a solar flux monitor – and supports engineering laboratories. The DRAO is operated by the Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics of the National Research Council of the Canadian government. © András Dancs | All Rights Reserved
The Dominion Astrophysical Observatory
Home to the Plaskett Telescope and designed by architect Edgar Lewis Horwood, the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, located on Observatory Hill, in Saanich, British Columbia was completed in 1918. The 72 inch (1.83 meter) aperture Plaskett telescope, was proposed and designed by John S. Plaskett in 1910 with the support of the International Union for Cooperation in Solar Research. It was planned to be the largest telescope in the world but owing to delays in completion did not view "first light" until May 6, 1918 - fully 6 months after the 100-inch Hooker telescope (2.5 m) at Mount Wilson Observatory entered service. A designated National Historic Site of Canada, the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory was once a world-renowned facility best known for its explorations of the Milky Way and was an active centre of astrophysical research until the 1960s. © András Dancs | All Rights Reserved
Superconducting Phased-Array Neodymium Toroidal Temporal-Geospatial Lens, Woodwyn Peace Garden
Temporarily marooned in the 21st Century, Dr. Sam Beckett chanced upon the perfect venue in which his superconducting phased-array neodymium toroidal temporal-geospatial lens could "hide in plain site"... a therapeutic community nestled within a bucolic little corner of Vancouver Island's fertile Saanich Peninsula... © András Dancs | All Rights Reserved
Driftwood Plasma Containment Vessel, Woodwyn Peace Garden
Although initially perturbed by the unfortunate necessity of constructing a plasma containment vessel almost entirely out of driftwood, Dr. Beckett nevertheless enthusiastically rose to the challenge... not the least of which was fashioning a functional sodium hexaflouride plasma guidepath from odd bits and pieces of discarded rebar and assortmed sea glass fragments... © András Dancs | All Rights Reserved
Emmet-Beckett Modified Flux Capacitor, Woodwyn Peace Garden
And yet, for all of that, Dr. Beckett's crowning personal achievement was his indisputably novel and aesthetically pleasing adapation of Dr. Emmet Brown's earlier, ground breaking work on the FluxCapacitor... © András Dancs | All Rights Reserved
